Universal Block Annihilation (UBA for short) is 7 games in one in which you put polyominos on a grid in such a way that the blocks that they are made of get annihilated by one of four rules or a combination of them. It's easy to start playing, but hard to master. It features smooth vector graphics and animations that should scale seamlessly to any present or future device resolution. The music and sound effects were done by the author's favorite composer, Aziraphal (http://www.aziraphal.com/).
The game is actually made up of seven similar, but different games, with different rules for making the blocks disappear, different grid sizes, different types of polyominos used and even different physical conditions like gravity. The game starts with simple polyominos, which increase in complexity when you gain levels, increasing both the challenge and the rewards, so it's very easy to start playing, but not so easy to master. Once you get to a certain level, you automatically unlock it so next time you can start at that level, skipping the easy part.
A move consists of pulling one of three polyominos from the bottom of the screen to the playing grid. The pieces can be rotated and mirrored by a tap or a quick sideways drag. You can add more blocks to the disappearing ones before they get completely annihilated to make big combos and score a massive amount of points. If you can make all of the blocks disappear at the same time or fill enough of the screen with the disappearing blocks, you get a special reward. If you can fill the entire grid with disappearing blocks, you get an even more special reward. There is also a multiplier that increases with each move that makes some blocks start disappearing and resets whenever you make a move that doesn't make any new block start disappearing.
In Color Match the blocks disappear only when there are 3 or more of the same color touching sides,
In Row Annihilation the blocks disappear only when there is an entire row filled with them, regardless of their color. They polyominos fall down once they are placed, without breaking apart..
In Colors'n'Lines blocks disappear when there are 3 or more of them of the same color touching, or when they fill an entire row or an entire column.
In Color Rain the blocks disappear only when there are 3 or more of the same color touching. The polyominos break apart when placed and the blocks comprising them fall down individually.
In Rown'n'Columns the blocks disappear when there is an entire row or column filled with them, regardless of their color.
In Square Annihilation all the blocks forming 3x3 squares disappear, regardless of their color.
In Octomino Mania there's always a chance to get the most complex polyomino in the game, the octomino. The blocks disappear in all the ways they disappear in other game modes: if there are more than 3 of the same color touching, if there's a 3x3 square of them or if an entire line is filled with them.
The game is automatically saved when the you exit it and reloaded once you start it up again, so you can stop playing it at any time and continue it whenever you want. Even if the game crashes for some obscure reason, you could continue playing it once you start it up again.
